Welcome to our monthly senior news letter for Somerset Retirement Home and Assisted Living in Longview WA. Some of our activities/events are for seniors, some are for all ages. Some are for residents, some are open to the general public and you’re invited! Please call us at 360-423-7392 for details about specific activities and events.
If you have an event or club that needs a nice (free) place to meet and enjoy, please contact us. We consider all reasonable requests.
If you have out-of-town friends or family who come to visit and need a place to stay, we offer furnished apartments for short term stay or extended stay in Hearthside Luxury Apartments located 1/4 block from Somerset.

Field-Trip to Berry Patch Restaurant
September 1st, 2019Somerset residents climbed aboard our bus for a scenic drive and a boat ride. Our residents will have lunch at the Berry Patch restaurant in Westport, Oregon. We have lots of fun with our residents!

When they arrive at their destination, they will feast at the Berry Patch Restaurant in Westport.
We have lots of fun with our residents. This summer we had many activities, including several field trips. Come join the fun! You are invited!
August Corn Cob Feed Party
August 26th, 2019Somerset had a corn cob shucking day and a corn cob feed party in July, and another recently in August. Somerset residents enjoy this popular summer activity and party two or three times each summer. At Somerset we make senior living fun and delicious!
Resident volunteers are shucking corn for their August corn cob feed party. Shucking is fun for residents who like to help. Resident volunteers shuck as much as they want to, and the kitchen staff shucks the rest. It’s a fun activity and the corn tastes best when you helped! Resident volunteer’s participation in shucking is optional. Many enjoy it!
Somerset resident volunteers and kitchen staff are shucking corn for our August corn cob feed party. They have to shuck a lot of corn for the big event, but it’s a labor of love. They had a great time and the corn tastes best when you helped!
These residents are enjoying their corn feed in our dining room. Come join the fun and enjoy delicious fresh corn on the cob at our corn feed summer parties!
Fresh corn on the cob is delicious. Yummy! Some residents like to enjoy their corn indoors in our dining room, some on our large back patio, and some on our large covered front entry way and patio.

These Somerset residents are enjoying their corn feed in our front entry way patio while other residents are enjoying theirs on our large backyard patio, and some are indoors in our dining room. It’s a large event. We had a corn cob feed in July and again in August.

Somerset’s August “Under the Sea” Summer Party
August 26th, 2019Somerset’s August “Under the Sea” summer party includes costumes, decorations, and lots of fun! Residents and staff have a great time! Costumes are provided for residents and staff.

Somerset Senior News Volunteers and Staff
July 7th, 2019Each month staff member Mariisa Bond Jimenez (alternate administrator) works hard creating our monthly Somerset Senior News Letter on her computer with input from Denise (activities director). The news letter is printed and posted online.
Most residents read the Somerset Senior News in paper-print form. Many of their families read it online at Somerset’s website, or Somerset’s Google Local Business listing, or on Somerset’s Facebook site.
Printed pages are assembled into finished Somerset Senior News letters by senior volunteers.

Employee of the Month – July 2019
July 7th, 2019Denise is our activities director at Somerset. She adds energy and excitement to our residents lives. Residents love to exercise with her and appreciate the fun entertainment and activities she provides. She organizes and hosts many activities and events at Somerset for residents and their families. You can see a list of these activities and events in our monthly Somerset Senior News Letter.
Denise is our employee of the month for July 2019. Here is a picture of her with her $25 bonus and certificate for her achievement and our appreciation.

Some of our activities and events are for specifically for seniors, some are for all ages to enjoy. Most of our events are open to the public with all people invited!
If you have an event or club that needs a nice place to meet and enjoy, please contact us. We consider all reasonable requests. Several local clubs meet regularly at Somerset, including the Retired Teachers Association, Cowlitz County Camera Club (great for all ages), and Genealogy Club.
For out of town friends or family (of Somerset residents) who visit and need a place to stay, we offer furnished apartments for extended stay in Longview WA half a block from Somerset including furniture; full kitchen with appliances, cookware, dinnerware; kitchen and bathroom soap; shampoo, linens, free laundry machines, free WIFI, and more).
