Senior Living Nurse Making Masks and Disinfectant Wipes
April 15th, 2020Ginny, one of our New Westside Terrace (NWT) nurses, has been sewing masks and making cloth sanitizing wipes for NWT and Somerset Retirement Homes and Assisted Living.
Thank you Ginny for your dedication and love. These things are worth more than money can buy.
Note: Cloth sanitizing wipes (including rags, wash cloths, etc) can be made by adding Lysol or any other disinfectant. Liquid bottles of Lysol are affordably available at most grocery stores. They are intended to be refills for Lysol pump spray bottles. When added to a paper towel or cotton cloth, they make great disinfecting wipes out of readily available and affordable materials. We prefer cotton because it’s washable and reusable. If paper toweling shortages occur, we’ll be less affected. Wash and dry resuable cotton wipes on hottest cycle! It’s also good idea to add a little bleach to wash cycle for extra disinfecting.

Entertainment and Live Music Continues at Somerset
March 26th, 2020We’re continuing to have live music at Somerset while protecting our residents (no visitors or entertainers entering the building).
Our activities director regularly schedules local musicians to come to Somerset to perform and serenade residents from parking lot, sidewalks, and backyard.
Musicians serenade all parts of building (from outside) so residents can enjoy music in their apartments. There are multiple concerts (outside each part of building) so everyone can enjoy.
Our musician friend Dennis is a gifted singer and excellent guitarist! Dennis serenaded Somerset residents from our front covered entry way on a rainy day. Staff opened windows so residents could enjoy live music from their rooms. Dennis made it a fun and cheerful day for everyone. Residents, staff, and neighbors applauded him. Thank you Dennis!
Dennis also serenaded Somerset residents from our backyard gazebo. Residents enjoyed it from their rooms through open windows. Dennis made it a fun and cheerful day for everyone. Residents, staff, and neighbors applauded him. Thank you Dennis!
Our musician friend Blake traveled all around the outside of Somerset on a sunny day serenading our beloved residents. Staff opened windows to let in fresh air and music! Our neighbors in buildings next door enjoyed it too. Residents, staff, and neighbors applauded him. Thank you Blake!

Toilet Paper Shortage and Donations
March 24th, 2020
Last week we reached out to the local community to ask for assistance in collecting toilet paper. For all of you that have been to the store lately, imagine getting TP for 130 bottoms plus staff. The struggle is real. Supplies are all back ordered!
At a building with 65 residents plus staff, we go thru 13 to 14 large Costco packs a month times 2 care facilities. That is 28 packs of 48 double rolls. For the past 3 to 4 weeks, we send 3 or 4 staff members out daily to purchase 1 or two packs at a time, depending on the limit. Sometimes there is none to be had.
I asked a friend to put us on a prayer chain, to help us obtain TP. The phone has been ringing off the hook and people have been knocking on the front door to give what they can. We have been blessed by our community. We are grateful and proud of our neighbors.
Thank you for your outpouring of caring and generosity. It has allowed staff members to get back to providing care.
